ACA High School and College Achievement Scholarship Award Program

ACA is happy to announce that the 40th High School Achievement Scholarship Awards Program is now underway. The ACA annually offers scholarships for students who are high school graduating seniors in Michigan and are interested in serving the Chinese and Asian American community.  In addition to 16 scholarships with a variety of focuses awarded to High Schools seniors, this year, ACA is offering 4 scholarships for college students.

Applications are due at 11:59 p.m. (EST), Monday, 9/11/2023

Interview date: Sunday, 10/8/2023

Please Note:

All applicants must submit their high school transcripts in addition to completing this application to be considered for the scholarships.  All transcripts must be submitted by a school counselor to scholarships@acaccc.org.  All scholarship applications and transcripts must be submitted to ACA by Monday, Sept 11, 2022.

Each nominee will be required to express their college plans, career goals, and interest in serving the Asian American community in a 15-minute interview with the ACA Scholarship Awards Committee at the interview.  The finalists (Honorees) selected will be recognized, and scholarship recipients will be announced at the ceremony.  The format and location of both the interview and award ceremony will be decided later.

Corporate Scholarships

Number of Scholarship: 2
Amount: $1,000 each
Scholarship #1: Community Service Scholarship
Criteria: Achieved excellent academic results with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent (exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis) while demonstrating passion and a good amount of community service.

Scholarship #2: Physical disability and/or overcoming hardship
Criteria: Achieved excellent academic results with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent (exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis) while overcoming major difficulties in life, such as a physical disability,  constraints, or major illness for an extended period of time.

The Sung, Nefske, and Chan Scholarship

Number of Scholarships: 1
Amount: $1,500 ($500 matched by Dr. Tai Chan)
Criteria: General scholarship for Asian or trans-Pacific adoptees who have overcome cultural, social or familial barriers, and have found success in extracurriculars and academics, and maintained links to their Asian heritage.

Lilian Siak Memorial Scholarship

Number of Scholarships: 1
Amount: $1,500 ($500 matched by Dr. Tai Chan)
Criteria: Achieved excellent academic result (Need not be a straight A student) while overcoming major difficulties in life, such as a physical disability, constraints, or major illness for an extended period of time. Demonstrating a passion for community services and pursuing studies in Liberal Arts majors.

Organization Scholarship

Association of Chinese American Scholarship

Number of Scholarship: 2
Amount: $1,000 each
Criteria:  Best all-around, leadership and community service

                                             College Scholarship List

  • One-time Scholarship
    General Criteria:  Applicant must attend an accredited Michigan non-profit institution of higher education (including community college) or maintain Michigan residency if they go out of the state to attend any accredited, non-profit institution of higher education.
    Eligibility: Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior enrolled (full-time or part-time, at least one-half, required) and in good academic standing at the time of receipt of the scholarship.

    Application and Supporting Documents:
    1.  Online application form, which includes basic information, a personal statement, work
    experience, and community involvement.
    2.  Two (2) letters of recommendation provided by faculty members or supervisors
    3.  Official transcripts
    4.  Documented history of receiving need-based financial aid
    5.  A 15-minute interview (Virtual via Zoom in early October)
    6.  Proof of Michigan residency for applicants attending non-Michigan schools
    7.  All supporting materials should be submitted electronically.


    Association of Chinese American College Scholarship

    Number of Scholarships: 2
    Amount: $1,000
    Pursue studies in the humanities and/or social sciences (i.e., history, English, art, music, religion, ethnic studies, sociology, anthropology, archaeology, political science)

    The Dow Family Scholarship

    Number of Scholarships: 1
    Amount: $1,500 ($500 matched by Dr. Tai Chan)
    Pursue studies in majors related to Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Science

    Yachun Tao Chen Memorial Scholarship

    Number of Scholarships: 1
    Amount: $1,000
    Pursue studies in any field with a clear demonstration of female leadership potential, including but not limited to involvement in leadership roles, community engagement, activism, or other forms of impactful contributions that promote gender equality and empower women.

  • Multi-Year Scholarship

     Tom Hing and Kuen Kuen Yee (2nd year) Memorial Scholarship

**These two scholarships are not open for new applications this year.**

Number of scholarships: 2

Amount: $3,000 each

Criteria:

      • Scholarship #1: Financial need, Pursuit of STEM studies, GPA > 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale), Community service.
      • Scholarship #2: Financial need, Pursuit of teaching/education studies, GPA > 3.5 (on 4.0 scale), Community Service

Continuation of these scholarships, for up to a maximum of four years, will be contingent upon maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and in the intended field of study.
