DESCRIPTION: \nACA Caregiver Survey\n華人看護者問卷調查\n\nACA would like to further understand the challenges of caregivers so that ACA can provide more suitable support to caregivers. ACA invites any caregiver who is 18 years of age or older\, who has or is currently providing help without pay to anyone who needs assistance because of being senior\, or with ongoing health issues to participate in the Survey.  You are a caregiver if you provide helps to family members\, relatives or friends by assisting with any aspect of life (buying or cooking food\, personal care or grooming\, other chores\, transportation\, translation\, chatting or comforting\, financial affairs\, arrange or accompany the doctor visits to getting medicines\, etc.)\, no matter if living together\, visiting\, or remotely connecting.\n\nACA will conduct focus group discussion for caregivers to share more of their care giving experience. As part of its mission of cultural sharing\, the camp has allowed countless students to explore and experience Chinese culture\, as well as to develop a passion for their roots.  \nThough we cannot be together in person this year\, we would still like to maintain the essence of our camp. After careful deliberation\, we have decided to move our summer camp online! Students will have the option to participate in a variety of classes and interact with teachers\, counselors\, and fellow campers.  \nAs always\, our purpose is to introduce\, explore\, and immerse our campers into Chinese Culture by engaging them in Chinese art\, dance\, martial arts\, language\, games\, and music.  In addition\, we also hope to teach campers important life skills such as responsibility\, communication\, teamwork\, leadership\, and critical thinking. \n感谢大家的信任和耐心等待，美华协会文化夏令营（线上课程）即日起开始报名。  \n美华文化夏令营举办至今已有二十年，一直以来广受华人和非华人家庭的欢迎和喜爱。秉承发扬传统文化，并与现代文化相结合的宗旨，每年藉由短短三周暑期时间达成文化薪传的使命\, 让无数年轻学子有机会在文化活动中学习成长\, 更加热爱和了解自己的文化根源。 \n在今年这一特殊时期，美华夏令营将通过线上课程的形式与大家见面。所有课程将依旧延续以往课程的传统和精髓，并结合线上授课模式进行合理安排。7月13日-31日，每周五天，都有丰富多彩的课程和活动在等着大家！ \n在转为线上课程的同时，夏令营的费用也进行了相应调整，基本收费最低只要每周$20 (10-15小时)。除了基础课程外，还增设特别课程，让大家有更多的选择。 \n课程包括(但不仅限于)：传统歌曲&舞蹈，民俗手工，传统俗语&文化介绍，书法，讲座，游戏，扯铃等。 \n居家的日子似乎有些漫长，我们已迫不及待和大家见面，一起交流，学习。美华文化夏令营期待你的加入！ \nCamp Dates and Times \nThis year’s ACA Summer Camp will be held Monday-Friday. Times may vary depending on classes/activities.  \nWeek 1: July 13-17 \nWeek 2: July 20-24 \nWeek 3: July 27-31 \nRegistration form and fees are due by Tuesday\, June 30\, at 3:00 PM. \nClasses/Activities  \nThis year we will be focusing on a virtual class based format. All classes/activities will include some time for campers to socialize and connect with one another just like they would during regular camp! Each class/activity will be led by a teacher and supported by counselors via Zoom. \nThere is a possibility of some classes/activities meeting in person in accordance with current COVID-19 guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention AND the State of Michigan.  \nHere is what we are offering for this year’s summer camp! \nFor all grades (pre-K-8th):  \nClasses/Activities (available to all registered campers): Throughout the week we will offer a menu of various classes and activities for campers to engage with. The ACA’s summer camp program has a 20-year history\, popular among both Chinese and non-Chinese families. Within the field of psychology\, she has worked as an organizational\, social\, health\, forensic\, and clinical psychologist. She had declined opportunities to work for the NYPD\, FBI\, and CIA\, and instead became licensed as a Clinical Psychologist and taught at the US Military Academy at West Point\, training cadets in dealing with combat stress.  She currently teaches at the National Central University in Taiwan\, and has been engaged in projects ranging from the psychological evaluation of violent and sex offenders to the development and training of EQ for school children. Her main research focus is in the area of stress\, emotions\, and health.  \nMay’s interests\, however\, extend beyond the study of psychology. She is a trained Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)\, a certified locksmith\, bartender\, and advanced SCUBA diver\, and had served as a Hospital Chaplain in a Level One Trauma Center. Prior to getting her Ph.D. in psychology\, May had worked as a manager in the International Human Resource Department at Citibank\, both in Taiwan and in its New York Headquarter. All these experiences have given May different angles to observe human behavior\, in ways that constantly stimulates her interest in psychology and its application to everyday life. \n  \nModerator \nHenry Tanaka \nFormer Academic Dean of Art\, Design and Humanities at Oakland Community College \nHenry Tanaka is a recently retired Academic Dean for the Division of Art\, Design and Humanities at a community college in Southeast Michigan.   Serving for 24 years in various roles including Professor of Art and Department Chair of Humanities.  He has received several accolades for leadership and teaching. \nHenry has been a practicing artist for 30 years\, exhibiting locally and nationally.  He has served as President of the Michigan Ceramic Art Association from 2003-2007. He has presented workshop and seminars on his personal art work nationally. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kansas City Art Institute and his Master of Fine Arts from the New York State School of Ceramics at Alfred University.  He currently resides in Auburn Hills\, Michigan. \nAppointed in 2012 as a State Commissioner on the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission (MAPAAC). He has served as a board member for the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Oakland. He is currently Board member of the Japanese Americans Citizens’ League (JACL)\, National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) and Council for Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA). Henry is a fourth Generation Japanese-American. \nSpeaker \nLisa Allen \nVice President\, Organization Change Management Manager\, Comerica Bank \nLisa joined Comerica in August 2018 as a Vice President\, Organizational Change Manager.  She has more than 15 years of experience in creating and sustaining organizational change.  Prior to joining Comerica\, Lisa worked in a wide variety of industries such as utilities\, manufacturing\, retail\, healthcare\, federal government\, military\, and non–profit.  Some of her more interesting projects include a federal administration’s Electronic Record Archive Project\, an organization design to support Lean manufacturing\, and a Proactive Customer Notification project for a utility.  Even though she has worked in such diverse industries\, Lisa has grown to recognize and admire the creativity and resilience of people experiencing change. \nSpeaker \nPaula D. Cunningham \nState Director\, AARP \nPaula D. Cunningham is the State Director for AARP Michigan which has more than 1.4 million members.  AARP is a nonprofit\, nonpartisan\, social welfare organization with a membership of nearly 38 million.  They work to lead positive change and deliver value to all people 50+. \nPrior to joining AARP Michigan\, Paula D. Cunningham was the CEO of Capitol National Bank (CNB).  CNB has been in the community for more than 32 years.  She was the only African American woman in the country to be president of a majority owned bank. \nPrior to joining Capitol National Bank Ms. Cunningham was the first woman to be President of Lansing Community College.  Lansing Community College has more than 30\,000 students and is the State’s 3rd largest community college.  As President of Lansing Community College\, she successfully led a community millage campaign to generate an additional $9 million for the institution into perpetuity. Under her leadership\, the college implemented a strategic planning process that resulted in five new buildings. The main building on the LCC campus was officially named the Paula D. Cunningham Administration Building in 2006.  This is the only building named after a woman in downtown Lansing. \nPresident Cunningham has also been a small business owner.  She and her husband owned and managed an 18-hole golf course and she was the founder of an entrepreneurial academy for young people. \nPaula Diane Cunningham’s dedication to education\, small business and community has been recognized by many organizations.  She has received numerous awards and recognition throughout her career\, including the 2016 Michigan Black Caucus Trailblazer Award\, being inducted in to the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame\, a former recipient of the prestigious Athena Award\, featured in Ebony Magazine as a “Woman on the Move” and featured in Bridge Magazine as a woman who “Breaks Barriers”\, as well as other featured articles. \nPaula serves on numerous boards including\, but not limited to Davenport University\, McLaren Health Systems – Lansing\, and she was the first African American female to Chair the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Board.  \nSpeaker \nSue Sun-LaSovage \nManaging Director\, Ashford Connex \nSue Sun-LaSovage has thirty years of Human Resources experience in China\, Singapore and the United States.  She is the Managing Director of Ashford Connexn and prior to that she was the Vice President of Human Resources for SRG Global\, a Guardian Industry company.   \nSue began her Human Resources career in China at the Hyatt Regency Xi’an.  She also worked in various Asia Regional HR roles in Singapore with Molex. \nIn 2000\, she came to the U.S. to advance her studies in the field of Human Resources. She then took on global HR responsibilities in various roles with Dow Chemical Company and SC Johnson\, where she drove people strategy\, culture change\, and strategic initiatives for talent development and talent acquisition. \nSue earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Optical & Mechanical Engineering from HuaZhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in China and a Masters degree in HR and Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in the US. \n  \nSpeaker \nFarzan Siddiqui MD\, PhD\, CPE \nVice-Chair\, Radiation Oncology\, Henry Ford Health System \nFarzan Siddiqui MD\, PhD\, CPE\, currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of Radiation Oncology at Henry Ford Cancer Institute in Detroit\, Michigan. He is also the Director of Head and Neck Radiation Oncology. Dr. Siddiqui completed his initial medical training at Grant Medical College in Mumbai\, India followed by a residency in Radiation Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. This is a large tertiary and quaternary cancer institute serving patients from India and other Southeast Asian countries. After completing his training in India\, Dr. Siddiqui came to the United States to pursue a PhD in Radiation Biology at Colorado State University\, Fort Collins\, Colorado. Following successful completion of his PhD program\, he completed his second Radiation Oncology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit\, Michigan. After residency\, he was appointed in a faculty position at Ohio State University from 2010-2012. Since March 2012\, he has served in his current capacity at Henry Ford Cancer Institute. In addition to his clinical and research interests in the treatment of head & neck and skin cancers\, Dr. Siddiqui is also involved with the operations and management of the radiation oncology department which is currently providing these services at 6 locations in Southeast Michigan. DESCRIPTION:Click here to download the flyer \nHoliday Celebration Coming: Donors\, Volunteers\, Community Friends are Invited\n美华协会感恩节庆典即将来临：邀请捐赠者，志愿者，社区朋友共同庆祝!\nMadison Heights\, MI (November 12\, 2020) – In the spirit of the holiday\, the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) is pleased to announce our virtual celebration event on Saturday\, November 21\, 2020 from 7pm to 8:30pm EST.  The event will include our annual Donor Appreciation\, Volunteer Recognition\, 2020 President’s Volunteer Award Ceremony and Thanksgiving Celebration. \nThe ACA appreciates the community’s continuous support as it contributes greatly to our efforts in providing valued programs and services to the community. For the past 48 years\, the ACA has been dedicated to advancing the social\, political and economic well-being of Chinese Americans and Asian Pacific Americans of all ages. The ACA has also been striving to empower the community livelihood by enhancing access to basic health care\, community security and wellbeing\, cultural awareness\, and promoting community health.  \nDuring the start of the pandemic\, the ACA launched a COVID-19 Community Relief Program to ensure the health and safety of both frontline workers and the community at large. By coming together and united in the fight against COVID-19\, over $31\,000 was raised; 22\,000 PPEs donated; 1\,500 care packages and 1\,000 power-up packs were delivered. In addition\, the ACA was able to successfully transition our programs and services online which also enabled us to expand our service scope.  \nIn appreciation and recognition of all the support and contributions\, the ACA would like to invite the community to celebrate together.
