SUMMARY:ACA’s Digital Inclusion Program Update
DESCRIPTION:The Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) is partnering with Comcast to offer the Digital Inclusion program to students ages 14-21 who have an interest in digital technology. This will be the seventh year ACA has worked with Comcast and the curriculum will also include courses from EverFi. \nThere will be one class this year that will meet every Sunday for 3 hours at the Chinese Community Center in which the tentative start date and time is Sunday\, October 28th from 1-4 pm. \nThe program will run throughout the school year and will end in May 2019 with the tentative graduation day on Saturday\, June 8th. The program is limited to 20 students and participants need to also provide a minimum of 50 hours of community service in order to graduate from the program. \nThe program will focus on: \n– Leadership and diversity \n– Personal development \n– Workforce development \n– Financial literacy \n– Digital literacy and responsibility \n– Hardware and networks \n– Media production \n– Teaching and facilitation \n– Entrepreneurship \nParticipants who complete and graduate from the program will receive their own personal computer and program certificate along with EverFi certificates. \nTo register or for more information\, please contact David Liou at dliou@acaccc.org.

The class emphasizes basic\, conversational English and employs a variety of fun and varied topics to stimulate discussion and encourage in-class practice. Topics covered thus far in 2018 have included visiting the doctor\, international travel\, and dreams! Mr. Mosley gears his teaching especially to the seniors who frequent the center\, but any and all age groups are welcome! The class goal is to expose students to new words and phrases that are useful for every-day life. \nNo registration required\, but feel free to call and let us at 313.871.1790 to let us know you’re coming. \nAdditionally\, Chinese hot lunch is available after class each week. DESCRIPTION:ACA is holding Mental Health Seminar at the Detroit Service Center. \nThe Association of Chinese Americans will hold a mental health seminar with Detroit Wayne County Mental Health Bureau in the Detroit Service Center on October 4\, and the seminar will invite local psychologists to introduce the relevant knowledge of mental health care. Mental health has been a major health threat to Asian communities\, and because of language and cultural barriers\, the mental health of Asian-American communities has long been neglected. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to ACA’s “Tobacco Use and Safety in the Asian Community” Townhall Meeting. \nACA always strives to promote the general welfare of Chinese Americans and the Asian Pacific American community by supporting youth education\, enhancing the lives of older adults and adults with disabilities\, and reducing health disparities. \nFrom April 2017 to January 2018\, ACA partnered with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service (MDHHS) and multiple local organizations to conduct a Michigan Asian Tobacco Usage Survey. Now ACA would like to share the survey results with the community. \nACA will go over our findings in a Townhall Meeting on Saturday\, September 8th\, 2018 from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Chinese Community Center in Madison Heights. We’ll also discuss as a group the essential question: “As a community\, how do we fight against tobacco for our community health\, our future\, and our next generation?
