China Abstract Art Exhibition

May 20, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 6:00 pm

This exhibition will showcase the flourishing abstract art movement in China and is intended to promote Chinese-American art and culture exchange. It is a unique opportunity to engage with works of Chinese abstract art spanning the last one-hundred years, featuring artists born between 1920 and 1998.

Even though abstract art was originally developed in artistic circles of Western society, the roots of abstract art are intrinsic to all population groups. Drawing from the rise of abstract art in the West, an abstract art movement has taken off at an astonishing rate in the last 20 years in China. It has been aided by the coinciding of traditional Chinese culture with abstract art concepts, which have been found to be a natural blend. With this vigorous energy coming from China, the Chinese movement is now a driving force behind the development of new international trends in abstract art.

The renowned Chinese abstract artist Yiying Ma, chief curator of the exhibit, has gathered together art pieces for the exhibit from many internationally acclaimed artists, including:

Teh-Chun Chu, Wou-Ki Zao, Youhan Yu, Lu Ma, Ping Tan, Luding Meng, Liming Gu, Ye Xiao, Qingshi Liu, Zhigang Zhu, Yunrui Gu, Hailong Yuan, Shijun Weng, Yingqing Liu, Bo Liu, Yanlin Guo, Xingui Xu, Jinhuan Zhou, Qi Chen, Wenxi Luo, Jufang Zhang, and Yukine Yanagi.

Located at the historic Alger Estate on the shores of Lake St. Claire, viewers will have the opportunity to engage with this art at the picturesque setting of the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.
