Welcoming Week 2018

September 19, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Welcoming Week 2018 in Detroit is set to begin next week from September 17th to 21st with music, arts, and food offered nightly at the Spirit of Detroit Plaza from 5pm to 7pm.

The series of nightly events seeks to present a celebration of Detroit as a welcoming, inclusive, and global city, and is an effort put together by the City of Detroit and the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit. It is also part of a larger initiative, Welcoming Week Michigan, championed by Gov. Snyder to recognize the diverse cultures and perspectives that make Michigan strong.

Each night will feature performers from different cultures of the world that have a presence in Detroit, as well as local vendors and organizations focused on promoting minority and immigrant cultures.

On Thursday, the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) is organizing the night devoted to Chinese culture, and will have Chinese displays booths and put on Taiji Sword and Taiji Fan performances. We encourage you to come join ACA in this celebration of Chinese culture, as we look to build friendship with other minority groups and introduce Chinese culture to the mainstream community.

The other nights will feature a variety of diverse cultures from the city’s varied ethnic backgrounds, including: Mexican, Arab-American, Caribbean, and Bengali.
