High School Scholarship

ACA High School Achievement Award Scholarship Program

This is the 38th year that Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) has offered scholarships to local high school students. For the Class of 2022, we will offer a total of twenty scholarships to students who reside in Michigan, are interested in serving the Chinese and APIA community, are Chinese/APIA American, or are of Chinese/APIA ancestry.

Most of the scholarships require the students to have a minimum of 3.5 GPA or better on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent. Standard test scores (ACT/SAT/PSAT) are highly encouraged. There are specific criteria to meet for some of the scholarships such as a follow-up request regarding financial status (e.g. FAFSA). Please see the details listed below:

CORPORATE SCHOLARHIPS

 

Page Automotive Scholarships (2)

1. for Community Service
Amount: $1,000
Criteria: Best all-around with a focus on community service and involvement.

2. for Overcoming Adversity
Amount: $1,000
Criteria: Physical disability and/or overcome hardship – achieved excellent academic result with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent (exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis) while overcoming major difficulties in life, such as a physical disability, or constraints, or major illness for an extended period of time.

 

168 Asian Mart Scholarships (2)

Amount: $500 each
Criteria: Best all-around, leadership, and community service.

 

INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIPS

 

O.S. Chan Scholarships (3)

1. for Athletic Achievement
Amount: $1,000
Criteria: General scholarship with focus on applicant’s Athletic Achievement.

2. for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Excellence
Amount: $1,000
Criteria: General scholarship with focus on applicant’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

3. with ACA for Fine Arts
Amount: $1,000
Criteria: General scholarship with focus on applicant’s achievement in Fine Arts.

 

The Zheng Family Scholarships (2)

Amount: $500 each
Criteria: Financial challenges – needs to achieve excellent academic results with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0

 

Mr. & Mrs. P.L. Siak Scholarship (1)

Amount: $1,000
Criteria: Physical disability and/or overcome hardship – achieved excellent academic result with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent (exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis) while overcoming major difficulties in life, such as a physical disability, or constraints, or major illness for an extended period of time.

 

ORGANIZATION SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Association of Chinese Americans Scholarships (3)

Amount :$500 – $1,000 each
Criteria: Best all-around, leadership, and community service.

 

Lehren Education Scholarship (1)

Amount: $1,000 each
Criteria: Financial challenges – needs to achieve excellent academic result with preferably a 3.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0.

 

MULTI-YEAR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Tom Hing & Kuen Kuen Yee Memorial Scholarships (2)**

1. for STEM
Amount: $3,000
Criteria: Financial need – pursuit of STEM studies, GPA >3.5 (on 4.0 scale), community service.

2. for Teaching/Education
Amount: $3,000
Criteria: Financial need – pursuit of teaching/education studies, GPA >3.5 (on 4.0 scale), community service.

**Continuation of these scholarships, for up to a maximum of four years, will be contingent upon maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and in the intended field of study.

 

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Andy & Olive Wong Family Scholarship (1)

Amount: $1,000
Criteria: General scholarship with preference given to those who have more than three kids in the family.

 

Ya-Chun Tao Chen Memorial Scholarships (2)

Amount: $500 each
Criteria: Best all-around, leadership, and community service

 

Mabel Peng Memorial Scholarships (1)

Amount: $500
Criteria: Best academic record and test scores and demonstrated leadership in extracurricular and/or community activities.


All applicants must submit their high school transcripts in addition to completing the application to be considered for the scholarships. All transcripts must be submitted by a school counselor to scholarships@acaccc.org. All scholarship applications and transcripts must be submitted to ACA by Monday, September 20, 2021.

Each nominee will be required to express their college plans, career goals, and interest in serving the Asian American community in a 15-minutes interview with the High School Achievements Awards Committee on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Finalists (honorees) selected will be notified via email to attend the ACA High School Scholarships Program Award Ceremony on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Both the interview and award banquet will be held online or if situation allows, in-person at the Chinese Community Center located at 32585 Concord Drive, Madison Heights, MI 48071. Scholarship award recipients will be announced at the ceremony. The decision of the Committee is final.
