Association of Chinese Americans Showcases Chinese Culture at Detroit Zoo Senior Day.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. — On May 27, 2026, the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) proudly participated in the annual Senior Day celebration at the Detroit Zoo, joining senior groups from across Metro Detroit in a day dedicated to active aging, wellness, and community engagement.

ACA’s Qipao Team, Tai Chi Team, and Dance Team delivered a series of captivating performances that highlighted the richness of Chinese culture while celebrating the vitality and spirit of older adults in the community.

The program opened with a graceful presentation by ACA’s Qipao Team. Dressed in elegant traditional Chinese attire, the performers combined a fashion showcase with choreographed movement, demonstrating the timeless beauty of the qipao and the confidence, poise, and dignity of Chinese American seniors.

The Tai Chi Team followed with a dynamic demonstration of traditional Tai Chi. Their fluid and deliberate movements embodied the principles of balance, mindfulness, and healthy living that have made Tai Chi a treasured practice for generations. The performance drew significant interest from attendees, many of whom stopped to watch and learn more about this ancient Chinese art form.

The event concluded with a vibrant umbrella dance performed by ACA’s Dance Team. Accompanied by traditional music, the dancers moved with elegance and precision, creating a colorful and visually stunning performance that captivated the audience and earned enthusiastic applause.

As one of Metro Detroit’s leading Asian American community organizations, ACA has long been committed to promoting healthy aging, cultural preservation, and community engagement. Through programs such as Tai Chi classes, dance groups, health workshops, cultural celebrations, and social services, ACA encourages older adults to remain active, connected, and engaged in community life.

Participation in Detroit Zoo Senior Day provided an opportunity not only to showcase the talents and energy of Chinese American seniors but also to share Chinese culture with a broader audience. The event fostered cultural understanding and strengthened connections among diverse communities throughout the region.

“Events like Senior Day remind us that culture has the power to bring people together,” said Peggy Du, Executive Director of ACA. “We are proud of our senior participants for representing our community with such enthusiasm and grace, and we look forward to continuing our mission of promoting cultural exchange and enriching the lives of older adults.”
