ACA Hosts Money Smart Expo Watch Parties for the Senior Community

In April 2026, the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) proudly hosted a series of Money Smart Expo Watch Parties designed specifically for our senior community members. These sessions created a welcoming and supportive environment where participants could access valuable financial education together, ask questions, and learn at a comfortable pace.

The Money Smart Expo, organized by the Senior Resource Coalition (SRC), brings together trusted experts to share practical guidance on financial security, public benefits, healthcare planning, and fraud prevention. Recognizing that language can often be a barrier to accessing these important resources, ACA provided live Mandarin interpretation at our watch parties to ensure that Chinese-speaking seniors could fully understand and benefit from each session.

Making Financial Education Accessible

Throughout April, ACA gathered seniors to view curated sessions from the Expo, pausing when needed to clarify key points and encourage discussion. The addition of Mandarin interpretation not only improved comprehension but also fostered confidence and engagement among participants. In total, 46 community members attended these watch parties, reflecting strong interest and need for accessible financial education within our community.

Key Topics Covered

The watch party series featured a range of timely and relevant topics, including:

  • Fraud Prevention: Learning how to recognize scams and protect personal financial information
  • SNAP Benefits: Understanding how to fully utilize available food assistance resources
  • Michigan Coordinated Health: Navigating healthcare coverage options within the state
  • Retirement Security: Exploring strategies for account rollovers and insurance planning
  • Financial Planning: Gaining insight into long-term financial stability and decision-making

Each session was selected to address real concerns within the senior community, from safeguarding assets to accessing essential benefits.

Building a Stronger, Informed Community

By hosting these watch parties, ACA continues its mission to empower Asian American seniors with knowledge, resources, and community support. Events like these go beyond information-sharing—they create space for connection, dialogue, and mutual learning.

As financial systems and public benefits become increasingly complex, initiatives like the Money Smart Expo—and ACA’s localized, language-accessible approach—play a critical role in ensuring no one is left behind.

ACA looks forward to continuing partnerships and programming that support the well-being, independence, and financial security of our community members.
