Detroit, MI — February 22, 2026 — The Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) welcomed more than 3,000 attendees to Eastern Market’s Shed 5 for the 2026 Lunar New Year Community Fair, a vibrant celebration of the Year of the Horse that brought together families, community organizations, cultural performers, and local leaders from across Metro Detroit.
The festivities began with a traditional Lion Dance that energized the crowd and set a joyful tone for the afternoon. ACA was honored to welcome Felicia Woo, representing Exclusive Presenting Sponsor DTE Energy, who offered warm greetings and well wishes for the Year of the Horse. Community leaders Michigan State Senator Stephanie Chang and Detroit City Council Member Gabriela Santiago-Romero also joined the celebration and delivered remarks recognizing the importance of Lunar New Year and the contributions of the Asian American community in Detroit.
Throughout the afternoon, visitors enjoyed a lively program of cultural performances and family-friendly activities. Interactive stations offered hands-on experiences including calligraphy, paper cutting, lantern riddles, and traditional games. Children and families also enjoyed creative activities such as painting 3-D pony sculptures inspired by the Year of the Horse, along with festive photo stations that captured the spirit of the celebration.
Food was one of the highlights of the event, with vendors offering a wide range of dishes representing culinary traditions from across Asia. Guests sampled freshly prepared dumplings, savory street foods, and other regional specialties while exploring the vibrant atmosphere of the market hall. The diversity of flavors reflected the rich cultural heritage of the Asian communities that call Metro Detroit home.
ACA extends heartfelt appreciation to the many volunteers, performers, community partners, and vendors whose dedication helped bring the celebration to life. The organization also recognizes the generous support of its sponsors, including DTE Energy, MAPAAC, CHDIS, Rising Voices, DWIHN, 168 Group, NKFM, and Welcome Oakland, whose partnership made it possible to host this free community event.
Now in its second year, the ACA Lunar New Year Community Fair continues to grow as a signature cultural celebration for the region. By bringing together diverse communities to share traditions, food, and performances, the event is helping to establish a new Lunar New Year tradition for the Metro Detroit community.
As the crowd filled Eastern Market with laughter, music, and celebration, the spirit of the Lunar New Year was felt by all. ACA looks forward to welcoming the community back again next year to continue this growing tradition.
