Summer Camp 2025 – Week 3

We can’t believe it’s already week 3 of camp! The campers had so much fun starting the week with a bang. They participated in an introductory game to bound each and every camper closer together. They also learned about building resilience and how everyone can be resilient in their own way. Bracelet making was definitely one of the highlights of the week. Campers loved choosing their own favorite colors and making bracelets by themselves to bring home. Painting was also a really fun part of the week! Ms. Julia taught the campers how to paint a scenery of bamboo and pandas, and even went as far as making a few campers their own painting.

Our Youth group finished learning the lyrics and practiced the dance to “Little Flower” by 优秀少年好好 (Xiùyòu Shàonián Hǎohao) and can’t wait to perform it for everyone on the last day of camp! Additionally, the Youth kids got to design and decorate their own chinese fans, adding personal touches to each, ensuring that their fan stands out.

Junior 1 participated in their bi–weekly calligraphy class where they learned to write numbers and some common Chinese phrases on traditional rice paper. They also had so much fun listening to Mr. Will teach about a few healthy stretches before exercising to prevent muscle strains. Mr. Will immediately followed up with kungfu class, where the campers learned their final performance sequence, and how to throw safe punches, practicing with a partner.

On Tuesday, the Junior 2 and Senior campers got to listen to a guest speaker, Curtis Chin, introduce and briefly read from his book, “Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant: A Memoir”. The campers then got to express their own experiences being Chinese that connected to the book. Along with Junior 1, the Junior 2 and Senior groups continued practicing their song “Love” by The Little Tigers. They also started learning the words to “Green Apple Paradise”, also by The Little Tigers.

All the campers also enjoyed learning how to make glass noodle salad with sesame paste and cucumbers. Although they didn’t have enough time to make it themselves, they still got to try it for their snack on Tuesday. The campers finished the week off by going on a field trip to the Detroit Institute of Art where they appreciated all the diverse forms of art displayed. When the kids got back, they learned a little bit about the history of Asian immigration and its lasting legacy. We can’t wait to watch the campers perform the final week!

星期二,小班2组和大班组的孩子们有幸听到了特邀嘉宾Curtis Chin的分享,他介绍并朗读了自己的书《Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant: A Memoir》(《我在中餐馆学到的一切》)的部分内容。
