2020 B3 Leadership Summit Attracted Great Energy and Motivation!

Madison Heights, MI – With the theme “Crisis, Challenges, and Change – Creating A Path to a New Normal,” the Association of Chinese Americans (ACA) held the fifth annual B3 Leadership Summit which is a two-night program including a thought-starter presentation and panel discussion on July 16th followed by a Career Planning Presentation, one-on-one private Resume Coaching and Advisory Chat sessions on July 23rd.   Following both night programs, participants were invited to Networking sessions where the participants were very engaged throughout the gathering. The crowd on both nights were filled with community professionals and friends.  It was an amazing event, filled with great energy and motivation.

ACA extends our sincere gratitude and appreciation for everyone who came out to attend and all of the hard work and dedication provided by the ACA Board Committee, ACA Operation Team, B3 PLANNING TEAM, B3 SPEAKER TEAM, B3 SPONSORS-Comerica Bank and Southwest Airlines, B3 SUPPORTER-GM, community organizations, and B3 VOLUNTEERS.  Much of our success is due to all your dedication, skill, and hard work.

The B3 Leadership Summit is co-hosted by OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates (OCA National) and its Detroit Chapter-ACA.  Launched in 2009, B3: Build, Breakthrough & Believe is a professional and leadership development program for aspiring Asian Pacific American (APA) professionals interested in taking their personal and professional goals to the next level through leadership development and networking. 

This year’s B3 SPEAKER TEAM is joined by seven subject matter experts and speakers from various industries and fields who are directly involved in caring for post-pandemic workforce.  They are Dr. May Chen – Associate Professor of National Central University in Taiwan, Henry Tanaka – recently retired Academic Dean of Art, Design and Humanities at Oakland Community College, Lisa Allen – Organizational Change Manager of Comerica Bank, Paula Cunningham – State Director of AARP Michigan, Farzan Siddiqui MD, PhD, CPE, Vice – Chair of Radiation Oncology at Henry Ford Health System, Sue Sun-LaSovage – Managing Director of Ashford Connex, and David Chang – Chief of Enterprise Agility and Business Platforms at Comerica Bank.

Both 16th and 23rd programs kicked off with welcome and opening remarks by Roland Hwang – OCA Public Affairs VP and ACA Secretary, Shenlin Chen – ACA President, and corporate sponsor representatives David Chang – Chief of Enterprise Agility and Business Platforms of Comerica Bank.  

The 16th program featured the inspiring 2020 B3 SPEAKER TEAM with an inspirational presentation with a thought starter, and a panel with a moderator and four speakers.  The thought starter made a pre-panel presentation delivering the central core theme and message to the audience, and a post-panel presentation as closing remarks.  The panel gave each panelist an opportunity to speak about their respective experiences followed by a question and answer session by members of the audience.  Thought-starter speaker was Dr. May Chen, Moderator was Henry Tanaka, speakers included Lisa Allen, Paula Cunningham, Farzan Siddiqui MD, PhD, CPE, and Sue Sun-LaSovage.  The Q&A session were followed to share their thoughts based on the topics brought out by the speakers.  

The program on July 23rd started with a motivational presentation on Career Planning by David Chang with his own career journey and planning strategies, followed with private Resume Coaching sessions by Sue Sun-LaSovage, and Advisory Chat sessions by David Chang and Henry Tanaka. The program was set to meet the needs of entry-level graduates or mid-career professionals, whether they are applying to a part-time job, full-time position or grad school! The event was packed with young professional who are eager and ready to begin your career.  The coaches and advisors were able to help the participants set and achieve careers goals and pursue career opportunities.  

After the event, people still lingered to exchange and share their ideas and thoughts.
