Richard Mui

President

Richard Mui currently works at Canton High School in the Plymouth Canton Educational Park.  He teaches in the Social Studies department where his present course load includes AP U.S. History and Civics.  In addition to Richard’s instructional responsibilities, he serves as the Teacher Leader for the social studies department.  Furthermore, Richard is engaged in the school community through his longtime tenure as the head freshmen football coach as well as the advisor for the student club, Asian Pacific American Club.

Ellen Zhu

Vice President

Ellen Zhu is an Associate Professor of Finance at Oakland University. She received her Ph.D. in Finance from Michigan State University, Master in Economics from State University of New York at Binghamton, and Bachelor in Economics from Fudan University in Shanghai, China. In addition to her teaching and research activities, Ellen serves on a variety of committees including being the faculty advisor of the student club, Financial Management Association. Furthermore, she is the Assistant Treasurer of the Parents’ Council at Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School and was the Secretary of the Parent Teacher Organization at Boulan Park Middle School.

Gloria Zhao

Treasurer

Gloria Zhao is the Principal of George Johnson & Company. She also serves as the Firm’s Certified Fraud Examiner. She received her B.S. and M.S.A. in Accounting from Eastern Michigan University and has over 14 years of accounting and auditing experience.  Gloria is a licensed CPA and CFE in the states of Michigan and Illinois.  She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Fraud Examiners. Gloria formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Executive Women International Detroit-Windsor Chapter as the chapter’s treasurer.  She was the Board Treasurer for the Association of Chinese Americans from 2017 – 2022.

Shenlin Chen

Secretary

Shenlin Chen joined ACA in 1999 in the capacity of the Executive Director.  She retired from the position after 16 years of services and joined the ACA Board of Directors the following year in 2016.  Shenlin is appointed by the Governor to serve on the Public Health Advisory Council of MDHHS.  She also serves on the Executive Council of AARP Michigan.

Shung H. (Sue) Sung

Sue Sung worked as Staff Research Engineer at the General Motors Research & Development Center in Warren MI.  She has joined OCA Detroit Chapter/ACA as a Board-of-Director Member and served as the treasurer (2014-2015), the secretary (2016-2017).

Ling Wen

Ling Wen is an Associate Broker at Michigan’s largest real estate company Real Estate One.  She worked at the National Government Services as a Medicare Auditor and was the president of Michigan Chinese Educator from 1999-2003.  Ling was elected President of the Michigan Chinese Women Association in 2017 and 2018.

Brian C. Hartwell

Judge Brian C. Hartwell serves as a district judge in the 43rd District Court of Michigan representing the cities of Madison Heights, Hazel Park and Ferndale. He previously served as the mayor of Madison Heights from 2015-2020 and councilman from 2007-2015.

Sasha Zhou

Sasha Zhou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health at Wayne State University. Her research uses mixed methods to understand and address the mental health needs of emerging adults and college student populations with particular focus on Asian Pacific Islander Desi Americans. Sasha is also the principal investigator of the Healthy Minds Network, a research-to-practice network dedicated to improving the mental and emotional well-being of young people through innovative, multidisciplinary scholarship.

Roland Hwang

Roland Hwang returns to the ACA board in 2023. He is a lifelong Michigander and metro Detroiter.  He served as president of ACA in 1982-83 and 2016 through 2018.  Roland is an attorney, having served as a Michigan assistant attorney general for 27 years until his retirement.  Roland teaches in the Asian/Pacific Islander American Studies program, Department of American Culture at University of Michigan.

Raymond Raoul (Ray) Tchou

Ray Tchou is a Detroit resident and has worked as a business analyst/ technical consultant for the City of Detroit Retirement System for the past 30 years. He is an active volunteer in his neighborhood and at Christ the King Church and School as a member of the church stewardship committee and school advisory committee.

Jie Wang

Jie Wang has over thirty years of teaching experience and over 18 years as a medical research assistant in the School of Medicine, Wayne State University. She serves as the Board of Directors for Cranbrook Music Guild. She is also a member of the Tuesday Musicale.  She currently works as a property manager.

Yi Maggie Guo

Yi Maggie Guo is an Associate Professor of Information Systems Management (ISM) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Business. She received her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and her MS from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In addition to many committees in the college and university, Dr. Guo has served as the Director of Accreditation and Chairperson for the Dearborn Chapter of Association of Chinese Professors at University of Michigan.  Dr. Guo is active in the regional organizations. She has served as board member for Midwest Association for Information Systems and Midwest Decision Sciences Institute.

In additional to professional life, Dr. Guo is an involved parent and Chinese community member. She volunteered in school activities and has served as Chairperson of Board of Trustees of American Chinese School of Greater Detroit (ACSGD).

 
 

Richard Yee

Richard is a Senior Engineer and Financial Analyst at General Motors in Warren MI.  He joined ACA as a Board-of-Director Member in 2023. He is an avid volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, Forgotten Harvest, and FB4K.
