Dec 4 ACA High Achievement Awards Banquet
This special event recognizing the accomplishments of local area high school seniors was attended by 70 people, including the 22 honorees. ACA awarded eight scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 and DCEA awarded three scholarships. Dec 4 ACA General Membership Meeting
Members gathered to hear reports on the financial status of the organizatiuon and an operational report. New directors were elected to the Board for the term of January 2017-December 2019. Gloria Zhao, Tess Tchou, Tim Wei, Tony Tai, and Charles Liu will be joining the Board. Much appreciation for their support and leadership to Angelina Chin and Angela Wang Beasinger who are leaving the Board at the end of December 2016. 
 
Dec 3 ACA participates in 44th Annual Noel Night
The 44th Annual Noel Night was held in Midtown Detroit and attracted thousands of participants from different places. The night was filled with an unforgettable and wonderful holiday spirit. Traditionally, a great number of participating venues in Midtown open their doors to the public for free and provide special stage performances and a lot of family-friendly activities. Everyone had a great time. ACA was invited to participate along with AARP and the Luella Hannan Memorial Foundation at the Hannan House on Woodward Avenue. For a fifth year, ACA joined in this great community event, offering Chinese calligraphy bookmarks and Tai Chi demonstrations to the public. Our Chinese calligraphy expert, Song Wei, was very busy from 6pm until 8pm writing Chinese names on bookmarks for the countless visitors as Christmas presents to them. Leonard Przekaza, Jay Lee, and ACA Board Secretary Shung H. (Sue) Sung resented Gong Fu Fan, Tai Chi Sword, and Tai Chi Push Hand. As the only Chinese American organization participating in this event to promote Chinese culture, ACA finished the year of 2016 very strong with its community service activities. Nov 19 ACA Volunteer Appreciation Lunch
Over 200 people attended this annual event as 100 volunteers were recognized and thanked for their support of the organization for the past year.

Nov 1 ACA offers assistance for 2017 healthcare enrollment under the Affordable Care Act
Trained certified Navigators offered assistance to people during the open enrollment period for 2017 healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
 
Oct 21 ACA’s 44th Anniversary Celebration Banquet
Over 200 guests attended and joined in celebrating another successful year for ACA. AARP and Detroit Area Agency on Aging 1-A were recognized as Outstanding Program Sponsors. Curtis Lee, Grace Ma, and Jenny Yu received Outstanding Youth Counselor Awards. The keynote speaker was Pamela Lewis, Director of New Economy Inititative. 
 
Oct 21 ACA hosted B3 Professional Leadership Summit
ACA hosted this program developed by OCA National. B3: Build, Breakthrough, Believe is a professional and leadership program for aspiring Asian Pacific American to develop their leadership skills and increase their networking.
 
Sept 26-30 Caribbean Cruise
ACA organized and led a group of 35 people on a 5-day, 4-night dream cruise from Key West, Florida to Cozumel, Mexico.
 
September 17 ACA Hosts APIA-U
OCA National and the Multiethnic Student Affairs Office at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with assistance from ACA (Detroit Chapter of OCA) hosted APIA-U, a leadership training program created by OCA. Click to read full article in Chinese or in English.
 
September 11 ACA Participates in AARP Grandparents Day Event
Participants gathered at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History for this special AARP annual event. Members of the ACA Senior Club performed “America the Beautiful” and a few dance routines.

August 28 ACA Madison Heights Family Fun Day
Over 200 people attended this fun event which included a watermelon eating contest, tug-of-war, and cultural performances. Special guests included Madison Heights Mayor Brian Hartwell, Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison, AARP Associate State Director-Community Engagement Lisa Whitmore David.
 
August 13 ACA Co-Hosted Sherry Chen Civil Rights and Law Forum
Keynote speaker Sherry Chen shared her personal story of the groundless espionage allegations she faced. Two experienced attorneys offered legal advice and recommendations on how to protect ourselves from false accusations.
 
July 11-29 ACA Youth Cultural Summer Camp
Over 70 campers joined us this year during the three-week camp in the Canton/Plymouth area. The campers engaged in various activities to help them discover the Chinese culture.
 
July 10 ACA Canton Family Fun Day
This was the second annual Family Fun Day held in Canton, Michigan. More than 600 people attended this fun event.
 
May 28 ACA Participates in Madison Heights Memorial Day Parade
A team of 17 participants represented ACA and marched in honor of Chinese American AMVET Post 85.

May 21 APA-Youth Advocates Leadership Camp
ACA hosted OCA’s APA-Youth Advocates program. Nearly 40 Asian American high school and middle school students participated. Click here to read a full recap in English and Chinese and to see some photos of the event.
 
May 8 ACA Mother’s Day Outing
Participants went to Holland, Michigan for the Tulip Festival and visited Centennial Park, Windmill Island Gardens, Veldheer Tulip Garden. A Mother’s Day buffet lunch with a specially ordered cake was arranged and all the participating mothers were honored. Click here to read a full recap in Chinese.
 
April 30 ACA Particpates in Comcast Cares Day
For the 5th consecutive year, volunteers from ACA participated in this event, which is one of the nation’s largest single-day collaborative events.

April 4 Employer’s Immigration Law Workshop
This free workshop answered participants’ questions about the federal I-9 form. The presenters were Reginald Pacis (Butzel Long) and Chelsea Zuzindlak (Boxwala Zuzindlak PLLC). 
 
April 3 – 5 Kentucky Spring Outing
ACA took a group of 40 people to visit Kentucky. Sites included: National Museum United States Air Force (Ohio), Harland Sanders Cafe and Museum, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, Natural Arch Scenic Area, Alltech’s Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., and the Kentucky Horse Park. 
February 20 ACA Lantern Festival
Over 400 people came to this free annual event was open to the public. There was cultural entertainment, Chinese food sales, activities for the kids, arts and crafts, community and informational booths, and much more. 
 
February 13 ACA Lunar New Year Banquet
About 250 guests gathered to celebrate the Year of the Monkey at Golden Harvest Restaurant in Warren, MI. A ten-course gourmet Chinese dinner was served. Entertainment included a cultural dance performed by the Wind Dance Chinese Cultural Group, solo singing performances by Esther Kaufmann, and a special “Joy of Life” Swan Dance performance by several senior men.
