Justice For All Student Art Contest

The Association of Chinese Americans, Inc. (ACA) is holding the Justice For All Student Art Contest. This contest aims to call on Michigan students from kindergarten through grade 12th to share their thoughts on the theme, “Justice For All”. What does “Justice For All” mean to you? How can we promote justice for everyone? Share your ideas through art! The contest welcomes all media, including painting, drawing, cut paper collage, sculpture, photography, printmaking, textiles, digital art, etc. Be creative and showcase your artwork!

Important Dates & Deadlines

  • Submission Deadline: Fri. June 3, 2022, 3:00 p.m. (EST).
  • Award Ceremony and Exhibit Reception: Sat. June 18, 2022, 10:00 am – 11:30 am (EST).

Official Terms and Entry Instructions:

To enter this contest, participants and their parents/guardians must agree to these official terms and entry instructions. By entering this contest, participants and their parents/guardians agree to abide by these official terms and entry instructions.

  1. Registration:
  • The contest is open to students from kindergarten through grade 12th grade based in Michigan.
  • S. citizenship is not required to participate.
  • Participants must have a parent or legal guardian responsible for entering their original artwork and signing the entry form.

After Successful Registration on Eventbrite.

  1. Entry Form:
  • The online entry form will be sent to those who have successfully registered.
  • The entry form must be filled out completely, including the parent/guardian approval.
  • The entry form MUST be submitted online by 3:00 p.m. (EST), Friday, June 3rd, 2022.
  • The entry form must be printed out and mailed to or dropped off with the original artwork at ACA’s Chinese Community Center.
  1. Project Description:
  • Participants must provide a project description in the online entry form.
  • The project description should include the reason to participate in the contest, what inspires the work, and how it reflects the theme “Justice For All”.
  • The description is limited to 200 words.
  1. Artwork:
  • “Justice For All” is the overall theme. Artwork must depict what “Justice For All” means to the participant and/or how we can promote justice for everyone through the artwork.
  • The contest welcomes all media, including 2D and 3D artworks.
  • 2D artworks include painting (watercolors, crayons, markers, paints, chalks), drawing (pencils), printmaking, cut paper collage, textiles (silkscreen), photography, digital art (computer graphic art, video), etc.
  • 3D artworks include sculpture, reliefs, ceramics, etc.
  • The artwork must be entirely produced by the participant/minor.
  • All artworks must be original creations. Traced, trademarked, or copyrighted characters and/or slogans will not be accepted.
  • The artwork must not contain material that is inappropriate, offensive, hateful, or disparaging against any group or individual.
  • The artwork must not contain unlawful material or content in violation of or contrary to all applicable laws and regulations of federal, state, or local.
  1. Submission:
  • There is a limit of one (1) entry per participant. Each entry can include one (1) piece.
  • Students who submit more than one (1) entry or more than one (1) piece will be disqualified.
  • Participants must upload a digital copy of the artwork through the entry form.
  • The digital copies should be photos of the original artwork in JPG, JPEG, or PDF format (No scanned reproductions).
  • Label the uploaded photo with the participant’s first name, underscore, the last name, underscore, the title of the piece, underscore, the age group, underscore, and finally art category. Ex.: Sarah_Song_Title_Elementary_2D.
  • Original artworks MUST be mailed to or dropped off with the printed entry form at ACA’s Chinese Community Center by 3:00 p.m. (EST) Fri. June 3rd, 2022:
  • 32585 Concord Drive, Madison Heights, MI 48071.
  • Before mailing or dropping off the original artwork, participants must attach the label form to the back of their artwork.
  • Each original artwork submission consists of an eligible art piece made by one student in one age category, accompanied by a printed entry form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Submission of original artworks period begins April 18th, 2022, and ends on June 3rd, 2022 (Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
  • For digital artwork, such as photography, computer graphic art, or video:
  • Upload the original artwork in either JPG, JPEG, PDF, MP4, MOV, or AVI format using the link in the online entry form.
  • Label the uploaded file with the participant’s first name, underscore, the last name, underscore, the title of the piece, underscore, the age group, underscore, and finally art category. Ex.: Sarah_Song_Title_Elementary_2D.
  • For digital artwork, there is no need to mail or drop off an original copy of the artwork.
  • ALL SUBMISSIONS, including the online entry form and/or original artwork, must be received no later than June 3rd, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
  • An incomplete application will be disqualified.
  • All artwork ownership is retained by the artist. ACA reserves the right to use your artwork in the print publication and online publication on the ACA’s website and social media platforms. We will respect the integrity of the artwork and will not allow the outside commercial use of entered artwork without the permission of the artist and parents/guardians.
  • ACA reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not adhere to these official terms and entry instructions.
